The Carolingian church of the Lorsch Abbey, a UNESCO heritage site. I keep wondering what kind of impact a structure like this must have had on the people in the 9th century when most people only knew one storey housing. The empty space in my photo comes mostly from the angle (which comes naturally through the height of the church building), the empty space in people’s view over 1000 years ago must have come through being overwhelmed.

I really like the rain over the horizon. Is the church still in use or just another empty space?

The church is a 1000 year old relic, a UNESCO heritage site (together with the more ornate entrance gate –> https://wordpress.com/post/picturesimperfectblog.wordpress.com/28119 ) . It’s the best preserved Carolingian building (built around 870 AD). The inside of the church building is completely empty. It is also open and can be visited free of charge.
