The family planning of this turtle (and others like her) did not take into account our holidays on their beach in Cyprus. The hatchlings decided to leave their eggs 10 days after we had left.

Elwetritsche are mythical creatures from the Palatinate. Five eggs in different stages and one hatchling about to set its foot on the ground for the first world.

A golden ball hatching from the black stone egg. What will hatch from the golden sphere?
Not much hatching from this egg anymore.

I like the artworks. Nature never does the expected. I would love to see a turtle hatching as well 🙂

To be fair – neither did the sea turtles know we were coming to stay there in August nor did we know about the babies on our hotel’s beach. I actually find it quite refreshing that the hotel does not advertise this fact and it stays an insider tip. From a series of photos in the hotel lobby I could see that there are many people on the beach when the hatching happens, however, the nests are guarded by conservationists who cordon off a wide circle.

That is so good of the hotel to protect the turtles and not tell anyone 🤫

Oh gosh, I had to google Elwetritsche.
We’ve seen the turtles hatch many times in Mexico, its awesome how the community and businesses come together to protect the species.

That’s awesome about seeing turtles hatch. Apparently, Elwetritsche have travelled to the US in the baggage of the Amish people.

Can you imagine opening your bag? Ha ha ha
My sister came home from Costa Rica many years ago and found a dead scorpion in her son’s suitcase… now that I’m typing that I wonder if he was intentionally taking it home lol.
