Saturday was Lärmfeuer Night in the Odenwald. High wood piles were erected and set alight at sunset. In the olden days these flaming beacons signified danger, nowadays lighting them is cause for a small celebration.

I hadn’t thought of it that way … 😂 I guess they wanted to have the kids that were rehearsed and knew what they were doing separate from the onlookers who might have been heard. Ah well … at least they didn’t wear pointy hats.

Also true. Winter clothes (and it was cold!) are usually muted colours here (which I never understand because especially in winter the light isn’t always good).
