Zebra with Z

A zebra at the Frankfurt Zoo.

This was the zebra in which Bernhard Grzimek, the long time director of the Frankfurt Zoo drove through the Serengeti – in the 60s and 70s he was THE animal expert in Germany, a veterinarian, animal documentary film maker, conservationist, animal behavioural scientist, and educator. Kind of like a German David Attenborough without the great voice.

This zebra was the plane (or one like it) in which Bernhard Grzimek’s son Michael flew supporting his father’s work. He collided with a vulture over the Serengeti, the plane crashed, and he died. He is buried in the Ngorongoro conservationist area in Tansania; when his father died almost 40 years later in Frankfurt his ashes were flown to Tansania and he was buried beside his son.

One more photo, not of a zebra but another a+e word:

A fake.
