Last on the SD card in my cell phone, which incidentally is called Anghammarad (predecessors were known to me as Dorfl, Mr Pump, and Gladys). The building in the photo is the mausoleum of the family of Berckheim, the local counts who used to live in the castle.

Last on the SD card in my camera (who, sadly, hasn’t got a name). It was Easter and there were hot cross buns.

Are hot cross buns a German thing, or only in your house?

Only in my house. I learned to like them in South Africa. In Saudi Arabia, where all thing with a cross are frowned upon or rather forbidden, they sold hot minus buns in the shops. No kidding!

Hmm. The story of the hot cross bun must have got lost in translation.

Au contraire. Because the cross is considered the symbol of Christians, it is not allowed anywhere in the country of the two holy sites of Islam (in Makkah and Medina). Diplomats are not allowed to fly their flag if it includes a cross (they haven’t recognised it in the UK flag, but Greece, Switzerland, Sweden, … no flag). There was a rumour that mutawwas (members of the religious police) once stormed the offices of a Western company removing the + signs on all the computer keyboards).

It was just the thought that a minus symbol was the opposite of the Christian cross that amused me. Ah well …
