All the photos used in this collage are from a Lärmfeuer night in the Odenwald this March. Before there were phones or even telegraphs large fires were used to send warnings over long distances. These days fires are lit in the Odenwald in early spring to remember this and just for the fun of it.

We have similar bonfires here in Finland next week, when we celebrate Midsummer. Also in Ostrobothnia of Finland such fires are lit on Easter.

Midsummer!! It doesn’t feel as if summer has even started here yet.

We’ve has summer here for a long time already. Feels like we skipped spring totally, May was the warmest and driest ever, 20 days with the temperatures nearing 30 degrees. June has been a bit cooler, but with little rain, so the grasses are yellow.

Oh! That’s just the opposite to here. Rainy, so much rain that there has been flooding in fact, and not warm yet, comparatively.
