This is fossilised or petrified piece of a giant redwood tree found near Leipzig when mining for soft coal and said to be 30,000 years old. Why a local sparkling wine company from Nierstein decided to buy the piece to display it in front of the town hall of Nierstein I don’t know. But there it is.

An interesting lump I guess. You stopped and photographed as many others probably have and perhaps went in and bought a bottle or two
Thanks for joining in Elke 😀

I miight have bought a bottle from the winery but I couldn’t find it. The lump is in front of the town hall. No big loss, I’m not a fan of bubbly.
