
To English speaking folk this is just a common snowberry but Germans it is a Knallerbse, literally “bang pea” because of the noise it makes if you throw it really hard on the ground.
So Knall means bang in English – this one obviously has one L blown off:

I never knew that about the snowberry. I’ve led a sheltered life.

Oh! They were typical hedge plants here years back, not quite as common now but still found often.
