One for the Birds

Leanne has asked me to pick a topic for her Monochrome Madness challenge. I decided that birds would be a good idea. I don’t have many bird photos but the good ones are amongst my private favourites. I usually wish that I had a better zoom (25-600 is not bad for a bridge camera, though) but here they are.

A French seagull. I find that birds which are predominantly black and white by nature work best for monochrome photos.

Like swans

and storks.

But original colour may work, too.

A falcon in hunting mode and peacock, robbed of its glorious blue.

Close-up in white and black, a pelican about to go to sleep caught in the Frankfurt Zoo and a crow.

Background is important, as with all monochrome photos.

Either contrasting in its own right as with this pigeon on a monument or through depth of field, another crow.

Silhouettes can work very well. This are a group of cranes crossing Germany on their migratory flight and a lonely crow in winter.

And lastly, a crow – this one unalived.

Join us showing off your monochrome birds – link them to Monochrome Madness #16. I’m looking forward to seeing them.
