We’re Waiting for a New Purpose

This former mill has been abandoned for over 50 years. Every few years a new investor turns up, there is talk about changing the whole plot into apartments, even a brothel was discussed at some stage, or demolishing the whole complex and start afresh.

    1. Yes, it is. No new developments. I saw on the town’s site that it was still working in part as 1982. Which I know for a fact is wrong. I know that two friends and me snuck on the plot in the mid 70s once. Many of the windows were broken and we added a few more broken panes; I’m sorry to say. – So, nobody knows anything.

    1. The particular problem with this one is that it (or rather the accompanying house) has been declared a historical monument. This puts severe limitations on any changes, i.e. making it too expensive for any possibly investor (the brothel guy had the money and the will but the neighbours managed to stop the plans).

    1. Yes, but the building is in danger of partially collapsing and it is getting dangerous. Personally, I think it has gone past being re-purposed and just holding it up will be too expensive.
