It wasn’t me. Pumpkin carving is – of course! – a tradition that has spilled over from the US. But my father used to carve a face in a root and put a cancle inside sometime in October/November (no particular day) when I was little. This was called a “fire devil” and preceded any US American influence. However, I don’t know anybody else who did this.
