I was at Castle Frankenstein near Darmstadt a few weeks back. Whether it is really part of Mary Shelley’s creation is debatable but it is a great place to go visiting. The views from high up are spectacular.
And when I turned round I could even see where we lived for eight years. The wind turbine just on the left side, on the first row of hills – we just lived on the other side of that hill.

It’s not the only castle carrying that name. Mary Shelley travelled in the area prior to her writing her famous novel and she must have heard the name. Whether she actually visited either on of the castles is unknown.

Wird da nicht Halloween gefeiert?

Nicht mehr. 2023 war das letzte Halloween-Spektakel auf Burg Frankenstein. Das hat mit Renovierungsarbeiten und Problemen mit dem Landes/Denkmalamt Hessen und dem Betreiber zu tun. Das Restaurant hat ebenfalls zu, es gibt nur noch ein Kiosk. Halloween ist dauerhaft auf Burg Königstein im Taunus umgezogen.
