Nature’s Calendar

The growth rings of a tree – in this case an oak – tell about the years and seasons that the tree has lived through. This oak was planted before the Franco-Prussian war in 1970/71 and it saw two more wars in its life time. The rings can be counted to find the age of the tree but the thickness and smoothness or roughness of the rings tell about the season and what time the tree had.
