Windows of Freudenstadt

I took a fair amount of photos of windows when I recently had a walk about the town centre of Freudenstadt im Schwarzwald. I’ve picked a variety to showcase here. Since one of the characterists of Black Forest houses are their steep roofs, there were a fair amount of dormer windows – often in groups of three, some of which I’ll show in this weeks Thursday Trios. Most windows seem to have shutters making them look very uniform whether they are older or fairly new. Bay windows seem to be favoured in the representative houses around the squares. Colours were mostly muted. And then there was a rather flamboyant gable window:

  1. Nice pictures, Elke! I also visited the city but in summer 🙂. It is a lovely place. I was fascinated by the shape of the houses too! I didn’t know that it was completely razed down in WW2.

    1. That Venus on the pillar https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2024/11/17/venus-of-freudenstadt/ was erected as a remembrance of the events of 16 April 1945 and a thank you to the people instrumental in the reconstruction (their faces are on the pillar). I was a bit puzzled about a Venus in connection with this but on the page of the town of Freudenstadt they say that she pushes away the (bad) past with one hand and reaches towards a (better) future with the other.

      1. It’s one of the things that I credit wordpress for (without wordpress really being responsible). When I post something I feel I have to write one or two sentences with it so I research what I’ve snapped, be it animal, vegetable or mineral.
