It’s in summer (2nd weekend in August) and unfortunately there are hundreds of children and they are real bullies and don’t let grannies take part.

I’m sure there have been paper boats over the years. But it’s a matter of pride to have a good looking boat. The mast should not be too high or it won’t pass under the bridges. And often they have crew (Lego or Playmobil or the like).
