A Waspish Post

Wasps have gotten a bad rap so I thought I start off showing that they can be beautiful.

Still beautiful but they seldom come on their own which makes them at least a nuisance (even if they are not aggressive).

Now wasps and food – it’s changing into being a menace.

Or a downright danger.

But I couldn’t leave without showing this deserted hornets nest. Hornets are wasps, just very big ones.

And yes, this is a hornet. Without a scale it’s difficult to tell but this bad girl was close to five centimeters, i.e. scary.

  1. I don’t if they were wasps or hornets or yellow jackets, but we had a nest of them that they built inside a planter. My wife went to water the plant in that planter because the nest was not visible, and the angry wasps flew out and swarmed her and attacked her. That’s when we learned that unlike bees, which can only sting once because they lose their stingers at the sting site, wasps can sting multiple times. They got her good.
