Oh yes, certainly. But in Cologne and Mainz and Frankfurt they have large floats (most of them were cancelled last year because of storm warnings). It’s impossible to get close to the corso unless you’re prepared to stand on the street for hours before they begin (or you happen to live along the route). The goodies from the floats thrown are better (traditionally butterscotch sweets, these days chocolates and even small toys or promotional objects). But in the little towns they throw sweets for the kids and adults can have a glass or beer or wine (depending on the region) and possibly shots (it’s a very alcoholic festival).
What a lovely bird!

Very handsome. And – according to the sign on the fence – not averse at painfully poking visitors.

The sumo wrestlers in the carnival procession last year were great. They had a lot of fun bouncing around in their suits.

Carnival corso. But in a small town not one of the big ones.

Even in the towns here you have to get a good spot for a parade early. I can’t think of anywhere that gives away booze
