This is the view with which I grew up. A 1000 year old castle ruin, in the middle of an old, dense forest.

As seen from across the town,

and as seen from directly below where you could hardly see the castle for the trees.
Then the trees grew old and being tall, it became dangerous to walk amongst them. Almost from one day to the next they were gone.

What an interesting site to have so close by. Much different from my views here in rural Virginia.

So rich in history. I envy you your proximity to it. Here (USA) it is not something we can see and I think that may be one reason we don’t take its lessons seriously.

Yes, it’s lucky to have history (older than the last couple of 100 years or so) around. But I’m not so sure about lessons learned. We have a national election coming up Sunday in a week and seems as the ones NOT having learned from history are getting stronger.

This brings back memories of an old forest near my childhood home.

The castle is beautiful, Elke, and almost fairytale with the overgrown trees. I appreciate your sadness at their sudden removal. Thank you for sharing this with our challenge.

We’ve gotten used to the naked view, I suppose. It does show off the layout of the castle better. And now that there are shrubs on the ground it doesn’t look quite as bad anymore.

The trees disappearing must have been an unwelcome shock.

It was. The castle looked naked.
