For years, practically all my life, I’ve been watching my diet. Yes, I had my share of sweets and other unhealthy stuff but not to excess.
And then: Wham! I’m diagnosed with diabetes. And now I’m not allowed cakes and other sweet bakings and bonbons and decent chocolates anymore.
It’s a medical injustice!!

No! That’s so unfair as you’re so active. Grrrrrr.

You will find a way around it. It depends on how bad your diabetes is. I have had it for almost 40 years. I take three tablets a day, but up to now have not had to inject with insuline. I learned to live with it. I am careful, take no sugar in my drinks, but yes, I do permit myself to eat ice cream or some sort of sweet desert. I used to check my sugar levels regularly, but no longer bother. Now and again I visit the doc for a long term sugar test, which is usually OK. I realise when my Zuckerspeiegel is unbalanced when I have a permanent thirst. Good luck.

I learned to live with it. My diabetes was diagnosed 40 years ago and I am still here. I am lucky that I do not have to inject insuline and just take my three tablets daily. I am careful with certain foods, your doctor has probably given you instructions. I still treat myself to an ice cream, desert, cake. I just know myself what I can and cannot, I notice when my sugar levels are high when I get very thirsty. My No. 2 son also has diabetes, and he had to inject at the beginning, but no longer.

It’s been over a year. I gave myself 1 month to complain and lament (which I did extensively to all and sundry) and then that was it. At first I experimented with certain kinds of special sugars and so on but one positive effect of my meds (no injections) is that my desire for sweet things is greatly diminished. And i found that the little sugar I eat does not affect my blood sugar readings. So far, so good. 😀

I would have eaten MORE sweets if I had known that it doesn’t make a difference 🤭

It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. It’s less the sweets as the wheat bakings etc. I thought I would miss. But medication has become better throughout the years – when I remember what my dad coudn’t eat and the kind of alternatives he had, it’s really not that bad.
