Leave Your Mark!

When I happened to be in Esslingen a week ago I went for a walk and came upon these chalk marks.

It seems that the worldwide movement of “parkrun” has arrived in the Suebian province and left its mark.

I might take my friend Mark to go with me next Saturday morning.

    1. It started in the UK. Germans got interested just before COVID hit – and well, that was that. But now it’s taken off again and according to wikipedia there are 62 locations (which is nothing compared to the 800 in the UK).

      1. Maybe. The thing is we have “Lauftreffs” all over the place, the oldest, as far as I know, in Darmstadt in the 70s. People meet at a set time (usually an early evening during the week, much better than these early sunrise times [9 am for crying out loud!] and you run / jog together. These meets don’t need volunteers or any other organisation except that there is a meeting point and off you go. At larger meets you sort yourself out according to your pace,There is a leader in each group, they know a trail which will be 7 km or 12km or whatever to be run in about an hour. That’s the well-established competition.
