The Colours of Henry

Aino has asked for a colour collage with the theme “The Colours of a Cat”. The only cat I have is Henry, so that is his collage. I used to have a cat called Lady Baby Cotton Socks who had the same colouring, mixed in with a little white. So it’s for her as well.

  1. Henry looks very tough. Finnish word what I mean is “tuima”, but I don’t find any good translating for it.

    1. I asked a Finnish friend. She confirmed that it is a difficult word to translate (google and deepl were ridiculously unhelpful, confirming once again that these tools only work with standard European languages and falter at anything out of the ordinary – and, let me get that rant off my chest – are possibly more dangerous with “easy” languages because they come close but still miss, lulling everyone in a false security). She suggested that it might be expressed with “determined” in English.

      1. “tuima” is very funny word. It is dialectical word and it means are opposite in different parts of Finland.

For me it means more tough than determined. At all determined doesn’t agree with this word. For example “A coffee is “tuimaa” means that it is “hot, strong or so on” Other part of Finland it means that coffee is weak.

      2. Yes, my friend mentioned that in one dialect “tuima” about food could mean too much salt, in another dialect not enough salt. I stick with Henry is like coffee, hot and strong 😉
