With spring the plastic foils come out to protect the strawberies – from cold, rain, and even birds.
Even the cherrytrees are covered once they start bearing fruit mainly because of the starlings. The good thing is that after the harvest the tarps are rolled up and stored for next year.
And while I was walking in the vineyards I saw these brown little plastic things. I suspected that it had something to do with pest control but to be sure I went and checked it out.
These are indeed little containers that give off pheromenes to confuse the males of the European grape berry moth.

That’s a lot of work to take down and put up every year. I reckon they have a machine to do it easily

No idea. They also have a lot of seasonal workers.

I knew they used those hoops to start plants. I didn’t know they used them for protection. That’s interesting.

They do at least at the begining of the season. The earlier you get your fruit to the market the better prices you get.
