We were told to wear masks – but there weren’t any to be had. So I – and many others – started sewing.

I still have a few of them. It’s pure superstition: if I throw them out, I will need them again.

I still have all of mine! You just never know…

They were pretty but not all that effective. If we need masks again (touch wood, spit over my shoulder, knock three times) I will buy … or sow again. My design evolved and the last one was the best (it was open at the sides to put in a sheet of fleece).

Until we could find masks, I was using a bandana that made me look like some kind of old cowgirl bank robber. Oh, everyone had some comment…🙄

Same here, but also I discovered during the pandemic that the cloth masks are helpful to keep me from coughing and sneezing when the pollen is really thick in the springtime.

I haven’t tried that one. But I found out that my hayfever tries something new every year. This year it affects my eyes more than my nose. I don’t think the masks help there.

Different pollens seem to hit me in different places.

I too have kept mine and still have some paper ones in my car as well as a cloth mask.
Come grass seed time I wear one mowing but more of the industrial design.
These look good Elke

Thanks. My later creations were more colourful (when the shops opened again).

I remember those days very well. Telling us to wear masks, but there were none. I still have a bandana that I wore as a mask.

I volunteered to sew masks for the local hospital. We received material and a pattern and could keep 2 masks for 50 ones sewed.

My elder uncle made masks at his home for the whole family back then.
Yours are so cute

Thank you. Once the shops opened again, I got cuter fabric (dinosaurs and stuff).

I can’t sew, so I bought mine from one of the railway companies – LNER. The company were donating the profits to a mental health charity so some good came out of the situation.

I would hang onto them, they say there will be more and it is looking the bird flu could be the next one.

I’ll definitely BUY disposable ones then as the cloth ones were better than nothing but still a makeshift. The ones I sewed for the hospital were better (because they supplied special material to use). And if they really run short – I guess I’ll have to drag out the sewing machine again.
