
When it’s hot but you don’t feel like going to a public pool and subject yourself to screaming youngsters you might want to go for a bit of hydrotherapy according to Kneipp. This is one of the nicer Kneipp facilities in our area, in the forest, surrounded by trees.
You step in the cold, cold water and stalk around for a round or two imitating a stork, then you step out, shake the water off and wait until your legs are dry.

Sebastian Kneipp who didn’t invent it but formulated rules and popularised this form of hydrotherapy.

I know about him, although not esactly a fan of his methods. . Does he come from the part of Germany where you live?

No, he was a Bavarian priest. He was a lot more sensible than that fellow Hahnemann who started that homeopathy bs. Besides his water treading (or dunking arms) in cold water (which has been proven in scientific trials to strengthen the immune system unlike homeopathy ) he had other ideas about moderate moving about (without restrictive clothing) and a sensinble wholefood diet. But what he is known for today is the water therapy andd there are “Kneipp-Anlagen” all over Germany, either sponsored by health insurers or volunteer organisations or town councils.

This I could enjoy. A cold shower though? No, that’s beyond me.

No cold shower. 🥶 The water reaches up to the knee and you walk around for a couple of minutes, not more. There is cold water available for dunking your arms in (just above the elbow) but one is not supposed to do leg / arm within the same hour or so.

You’d probably need to do what we used to do when we lived in Saudi 30 years ago: they threw suitcase sized iceblocks in the compound swimming pool every night to cool the water down.
