BTW: In German, the Cookie Monster is NOT the Kekse Monster but the Krümelmonster (the crumbs monster) who nevertheless shouts “Kekse!” when he wants one.
There is, or rather, there are. Monstrum, Ungeheuer, Scheusal … but “das Monster” has been used for decades, maybe even a century, and the German words don’t fit with those lovelable monsters that Hollywood and Sesame Street have supplied to us.
