I knew that swans mate for life but I recently learned that also geese – particularly Canada geese – pick a mate and stay together (unlike ducks who are serial monogamists).

“Little by little, living together, two people fall into a sort of unison, they vibrate so intricately to one another. That’s the real secret of marriage,”
― D.H. Lawrence, Lady Chatterley’s Lover

I did not know that. We have them in a pond near my home

Geese have many endearing characteristics. But they’re still mobsters who terrify everything else from our village ponds.

Do tell … any photographic evidence?

All negative evidence. No ducklings that survive more than a day or two. Fewer adult ducks and moorhens. And I choose not to take photo of mountains of goose excrement on the pavements.

This is … not nice. I didn’t know geese would do that.
