Yes, a braai is a barbeque, outdoor grilling with “death by meat”. For an untrained German ear it sounds like “braye” (as in aye-aye, Sir) and in German that means mush or mash and my first invitation to a “Brei” had me flabbergasted.
I first thought it was cheese but that’s Brie. I looked it up and an invitation to come around for some porridge in winter would be OK but as a party theme 🤔
