Moonlight

In 1960 Ted Herold, a German, at the time fairly well-known singer, aka Harald Walter Bernhard Schubring, had a no. 1 hit with the title “Moonlight”. I always assumed that it was a cover version of an English song but not so. It’s a German original, the only English word in the song is “moonlight”.

It’s not a bad song and it became the greatest hit of “the German Elvis”. If you want to check it out, here you go.

    1. I believe you. It’s not a series I’ve ever watched. The song was produced in the time that Elvis was stationed in Germany with the army, so his looks and I guess also his songs were very present at the time.

    1. It’s nostalgia pure for me. Because we had the lp of the no. 1 hits in Germany in 1960. I don’t know how often I’ve played that record, that’s a year after I was born. I’m sure my teenage sisters played this record again and again while little me absorbed. I still know all of them, and believe me, some where rather awful (a better one that year was Conny Francis singing the German version of “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool”).

      1. It was kind of cute but on pure German pronunciation Conny Francis was much better. And they all were better than a number of German singers of the time who thought they had to sing in English.
