Eldorado

Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.

But he grew old—
This knight so bold—
And o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.

And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow—
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be—
This land of Eldorado?"

"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied—
"If you seek for Eldorado!"

And on top of it all, I learned a new word: bedight. I suspected a typo but it is actually a word.

      1. I have been racking my brains to think of what that is called. Finally had to look the word up.
        It’s a “relief” I know that doesn’t help why it’s there

      2. I tag all my “reliefs” with “Relief” (yes, same word in German) and it’s one of the reasons that I started to limit myself to one language when tagging. What a relief!
