For your information (which of course, your story might take you in a total different direction): this is the back of an old house (18th century at a guess) in the middle of a small town. The front is, I think, a half-timbered house, fairly recently renovated. This little river runs from the hills through the town and all the houses along are built like that, a door at the back leading to a little bridge. I guess it was used to get rid of refuse in an easy way.
Thank you, my friend- I will paste that info into the page and possibly use it for background. This gave me a wonderful idea as to who my main character will be.
