Lost in translation – a true story

“Kishmish!” I call for my sister whose name is Raisin which sounds stupid for a human. I’ve made a resolution to call her by the Farsi translation from now on and every time I do it is raisin’ the mood.

    1. Glad you like it. And fun about Urdu. I haven’t had many students who are mothertongue Urdu speakers in my classes but I love to find words that are similar in different languages.

      1. Actually- Urdu which means army in Turkish was invented when Mughals invaded India. The army they were commanding was a mixture of Indian, Persian, Arab and Turks. So this language came into being which was a mixture of all the four languages.
