A tree.

A short synopsis of the history of the Weinheim cedar:

The Weinheim Castle manages to just top the Libanon cedar in front. It’s an impressive tree – it was named as a national heritage tree, an honour it shares with only 44 other trees in Germany. A few years back there was a small scandal surrounding it. It had always been known as the oldest cedar in Germany, presumably planted in the 18th century. But somebody researching in the town’s archive found out that it was only planted in 1835, thus loosing it’s claim to be the oldest (the oldest cedars in Germany are the ones in Bad Soden, older by 13 years. It’s still an impressive tree with a circumference of more than three metres and a height of almost 30 metres. And it holds a lot of memories for me, having grown up practically in its shadows.

The plaque was removed once it was known that it was false, and a new plaque has been put up. The tree, I’m sure, doesn’t care – it just keeps on existing.
