Make it a triptych!

A triptych is devided in three sections, usually in three panels. Traditionally, the middle panel is the focus of the three and thus sometimes is a bit larger. Thematically the panels can be connected any which way you want.

Here are a few examples for different treatments:

The same subject – interpreted three times.

Three panels of the same thing – through the lens of time.

One building stretched over three panels.

Three of a kind and not of a kind.

Ordinarily, a triptych has three vertical panels but horizontal works as well.

And finally, an action triptych – the traditional form varied to have one of the side panels bigger than the other two.

With what variations can you come up? Have fun playing around!

    1. I’m sure you did fine – besides there is no right or wrong (at worst, which I’m sure you didn’t do, you can always claim “creativity!”). I’ll be over now to look at your pictures.

  1. I was so pleased to see you propose this theme as it’s something we’ve been exploring in my photography group. You explain the concept very clearly and have some interesting and varied examples. I especially like the final action shot – it’s very effective with this treatment 🙂 And I would never have thought of a vertical triptych!

I’ve stuck to just one process, with variations, and just one subject matter too: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/gallery-floral-triptychs-in-monochrome/
