Salmon and Chips

“I despise formal restaurants. I find all of that formality to be very base and vile. I would much rather eat potato chips on the sidewalk.”
― Werner Herzog

And I’d be back in jiffy to Nelson’s in Hockley Heath (even the internet thinks it’s the best fish&chips for miles).

However, talking about fish:

“You piss me off you Salmon… You’re too expensive in restaurants.”
― Eddie Izzard

“Less is more” might be the solution.

“I am officially Jewish, but I’m Jewish in the same way the Olive Garden is an Italian restaurant.”
― A.J. Jacobs, The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible

And lastly, a quote not from a book but from a stand-up comedian (who might have written that in a book, I wouldn’t know).

“Isn’t making a smoking section in a restaurant like making a peeing section in a swimming pool?”
― George Carlin

  1. The smoking section in restaurants…so laughable. Years ago, when indoor smoking was being phased out, you would always be asked, “Smoking or non-smoking?” It was ridiculous because the restaurant was entirely open and the smoked wafted throughout the restaurant. Thankfully restaurants, and most bars, are definitive in ‘Absolutely No Smoking.’ Good old George Carlin–he was hilarious!

  2. Wonderful selection Elke. The same was in planes, a smoking and non-smoking sections 🙄 When smoking was banned in eateries here people would sit outside, near windows and doorways. Now there’s smoke-free zones that extend 4 to 5 metres from the boundary of outdoor, commercial eating/drinking areas
