Having lived near Darmstadt for a while, I’ve passed this building a few times. It’s the armory or rather the hunt supply house which is part of the hunting seat and summer residence of the Landgraviate Hesse-Darmstadt, Castle Kranichstein. I’ve read that in its heyday carriages would drive from one end of the building to the other. It was built in the last two decades of the 16th century. Today it houses a museum and a biodiversity centre focusing primarily on the surrounding beech forest. It’s quite impressive even though it is only a utility building adjacent to an actual castle. Next time I’m passing, I might even bring a few photos of the castle itself.
