This is one of my favourite fountains. It’s the “Elwetritsche Brunnen” in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in Palatinate.

Elwetritsche are mythical creatures from our area, often said to be bird-like and a mixture of other animals or things.

And there are always new ones hatching.

The artist who created this wonderful fountain is Gernot Rumpf.

I can see why it’s a favourite Elke, it is a fabulous fountain

There is a word in German called “weinselig”. It’s translated as “vinous” but possibly it’s more “blissful” in combination of wine drinking.

In Landau they say this about them: https://www.esv-landau-pfalz.de/Elwetritsch/Legende_Elwetr.htm
My husband and I have been participating in our own Elwetritsche hunt these past days. The elwetritsch has eluded us until today. Today we ventured across the river Rhine and I think we struck … something. I.e. we bought a car (ours died on us on the A5, our neighbours car got sick with us, we fixed the battery, then bought a new battery and had it installed, and this morning it finally died all together. But not all is lost, I hope we bought a reliable one today – it’ll take 2 weeks until we have it (TÜV, private inspection, registration plates etc.) and then I will be mobile again!
