Teachers gonna teach

Education had been easy.
Learning things had been harder.
Getting an education was a bit like a communicable sexual disease.  It made you unsuitable for a lot of jobs and then you had the urge to pass it on.

Terry Pratchett, Hogfather

[DEATH is looking for a change of careers so he goes to a vocational guidance officer]

"It would seem that you have no useful skill or talent whatsoever,’ he said.  ‘Have you thought of going into teaching?’

DEATH’s face was a mask of terror.  Well, it was always a mask of terror, but this time he meant it to be.

Terry Pratchett, Mort

“You know, you sound a very educated man for a barbarian,” said Rincewind.
“Oh, dear me, I didn’t start out a barbarian. I used to be a school teacher. [...]”
“What did you teach?”
“Geography. [...]. But I decided to give it up and make a living by the sword.”
“After being a teacher all your life?”
“It did mean a change of perspective, yes.”
“But … well … surely … the privation, the terrible hazards, the daily risk of death…”
Mr. Saveloy brightened up. “Oh, you’ve been a teacher, have you?”
