Today’s Best

What others have said as well: not only is it very difficult to select five photos as best but they are also subject to change. Today’s pick may be different to my picks next month, next week, maybe even tomorrow.

However, this photo might always end up in the final selection because it was such a happy coincidence. This group of flamingoes decided to have a fly-by when we were holidaying in Cyprus. Apparently, they do that occasionally, like once every other month. To be there at that time and have my camera ready which I normally don’t take with me when I go to the beach for a swim was such a wonderful, once in a life-time occasion for me. I have quite a few photos of them being tiny specs in the distance and then they came closer. Lucky me!

I was concentrating on the almond blossoms – so this again, was sheer coincidence. No rapid shots in succession but me concentrating on the blooms. It’s almost as if I was photobombed by a bee.

Not the only photo I have of this view, combining the two castles and an old friend, the tower who watched over my childhood. I love this particular photo with the freshly fallen snow, not all that common anymore alas! because of the crispness and glow it gives to the scene.

And now for something completely different, at least in terms of colour. A sunset with pictoresque willow stumps at the right place.

It wouldn’t be me without a funny shot. I love these four characters and I have no idea why the starling on the right looked so bedraggled. I hope he wasn’t sick. As is, I just love the judgemental looks the others give it.

I just realised that except for the flamingoes I took all photos within a few kilometres of our home.
