We have less bugs in general, well documented by fairly clean windscreens when driving on a summer’s evening, but we have quite a few new species (like tiger mosquitos, and Asian hornets). NABU an organisation who documents sightings says that there were double the sightings in 2026 than 2025.
Aren’t they beautiful insects?

They are. And thanks to global warning we see more of them and bigger ones around here as well.

That is worth documenting. I wonder what moved in that is a favourite food for Praying Mantis

I have less as well. Maybe now that has rained a little, butterflies will emerge

I’ve never seen one in North Dakota, only in places further south. They are interesting, like the Walkingstick, also rare in North Dakota.

They look really alien, or rather, alien movie designers might have looked at mantises. Especially because they can turn their heads.

Oh wow. I’ve never seen one in the UK though. Maybe one day soon, the way things are going.

Wow. Beautiful and scary at the same time. It appears to be reading the headlines in the paper.
