Some street names are generic (Main Sreet, Church Street, etc.), some are named after famous people. In some periods streets were named after people or places which don’t transport well into newer times..
In 1933 Joseph Goebbels asked German towns and cities to name places and streets after Gdańsk to manifest the claim the German state was asserting to incorporate Danzig/Gdańsk into the German state. Danziger Straße (as in my hometown) is inoccuous enough, similar to Prager Straße, Londoner Straße, Moskauer Straße, Warschauer Straße… But adding “Freiheit” (freedom or liberty) is something else. “Danziger Freiheit” (Freedom of or for Gdańsk) is definitely a Nazi slogan. Koblenz finally changed the infamous name to “Esther-Bejearano-Straße” in 2022. Esther Bejearano was a survivor of the the Auschwitz deathcamp.

I like that they left the crossed-out name to show that a change was (finally) made and to show a connection between the two names.
