Was he ripped?

I don’t know but the word riptide only conjurs up the tv series Riptide with Perry King in my mind.I don’t know how often I saw an episode but it must have left an impression.The IMDB rating is 6.8 which is respectable for an 80s series. Anyway, the word and the memory pushed me down a rabbit hole.

I found out that Perry King, who looked like a blond version of Tom Selleck back in the day, complete with 80s moustache, has matured very nicely, thank you. In fact, reading about the series (since I don’t remember much beyond the title) it seems it was a cheap copy of Magnum P.I.: three friends work as private investigators somewhere near the South Californian coast, two Vietnam war veterans and a technical nerd (not quite like Higgins but an odd one out). They even have a helicopter.

I found out that the latest part Perry King played was in a 2023 podcast called “The signal” which got the near perfect score of 9.7 on IMDB. Almost too good to be true, I don’t remember ever even seeing a 9.7 rating. Maybe because there are only 9 ratings, no actual reviews. It’s classified as sci-fi and available for free on the platform where I listen to podcasts.So I am, listening that is. Started with episode 1. So far, reminiscent of radio plays from years gone by. So far not even close to 9.7, maybe it will get better.I don’t know if I’ll stick with it. Or if I will be caught in a riptide.
