He had the blues
Many, many, MANY moons ago my husband worked in South Africa. After his first year or so he went to see his boss and asked timidly (he was young and still kind of new) for a raise.
His boss waved him over to the window in his office, pointed outside and up and asked: “What do you see?”
“Nothing? … sky … just sky … blue sky.”
“That’s it. That blue sky here in South Africa is half your salary check. You’re getting plenty of compensation for your work.”
