A Little Hidden Lake

One of the things I like about our running (and these days more often than not walking) group is that we get to go to places that I normally would not find on my own.

Like this lake near Teplice in the Czech Republic. Our group never met anyone at all while we circled the lake and finally decided to jump in, even though we hadn’t brought our costumes.

Wiesbaden Clinker

Wiesbaden is still a rich town by all accounts, and it was even more so 150-100 years ago. In some areas one ostentatious villa neighbours the next, although many of these are now divided into different apartments or more often than not, into residential and fancy office apartments.

Clinker fassades were all the rage, often combined with decorative elements that are better suited to smooth surfaces. Turrets, cuppolas, and playful details are not meant for bricks, at least in my mind.

This window combines the typical two-coloured brickwork, with an arched window and stucco elements. I did appreciate the two bright white watering cans (IKEA, PS 2002, 1.99 € a piece, if I’m not mistaken).

Being Led Astray

My walking companion and I lost the rest of the group as well as the trail markings. When we saw this muddy path in front of us we decided to turn around and find a better way.

We turned into this path and ended up with the others again. But – the muddy path was the right way, we learned.

PS: Our shoes were the cleanest.

Stop and Take a Fellow Passenger Along

In rural areas, where public transport is not great, these ride-along benches are cropping up all over the place. You take a seat and you wait until somebody stops and gives you a ride. It’s the refinement of the hitchhiking of old. Funnily enough, it’s mostly elderly people who take advantage of the offer, the ones that use to stick out their thumbs 50 years ago. The return benches are near shopping areas, village centres. or serviced bus stops near by.
