This reservoir in the Odenwald, the Marbach Stausee, features a unique structure in the middle. I’m sure it has something to do with the lake’s function but I’ve not found a detailed explanation why it is there – except for looking strange and unique, especially with its reflection in the still waters.
No, for once not COVID related. This is a photo from 2016. I had planned an outing to these castle grounds and ended up in front of the gate reading “closed” – very frustrating. I’ve never found out why the park wasn’t open. I’ve been back since and could go in.
Zephyr can mean a soft breeze but I also found the definition of “a wind from the west”. We mostly have westerly winds, originating somewhere over the Atlantic, traversing France, passing over the forested area between France and Germany, and reaching us after crossing the Rhine Valley. Also, there are hills in our back protecting us from the cold easterly winds, and although the westerlies might bring rain, they push the low-pressure systems with their bad weather to the East.
Although the words on this mural read: “Family is everything” I think “family” can be defined in much broader terms than merely blood relations.
Connection can happen through physical touch – but it doesn’t need to. The internet is much maligned these days because the role it plays in agitation and false information but we shouldn’t forget how it can bring people together. Bushboy who came up with today’s prompt is in Australia. I am in Germany. Yet we share a connection via our posts and photos.
This Schifferstädter Marktfrau wheels her beets to the market in front of the Rathaus in Schifferstadt, a town next to the river Rhein in the upper Rhine valley.
This cheerful Maatfrau sits in Koblenz, a couple of hundred kilometres down the river, with her lettuce and potatoes on offer.
And finally, in the heartland of the asparagus growing region, this Spargelfrau sells her wares in Schwetzingen in view of the palace – fitting for this noble vegetable.
This year isn’t really the year for field trips but last year I had three weekends in the town of Böblingen, just south of Stuttgart, for a training program. I got up early (against my nature) and took photos around the hotel and the two town lakes.
The school and hotel was in the old part of town, amongst the pubs and restaurants and clubs.
Böblingen has an upper and lower lake which got a make-over for the national botanical show in 1996.
The walks around the lakes are dotted with sculpture pieces – which kind of spilled over in town.
It was early spring, so not too many flowers yet – but the people of the town were obviously expecting a rich harvest.
