Connect with someone today!

Although the words on this mural read: “Family is everything” I think “family” can be defined in much broader terms than merely blood relations.
Connection can happen through physical touch – but it doesn’t need to. The internet is much maligned these days because the role it plays in agitation and false information but we shouldn’t forget how it can bring people together. Bushboy who came up with today’s prompt is in Australia. I am in Germany. Yet we share a connection via our posts and photos.
Here is the whole mural:

Modern bay windows

The windows above are in Mönchengladbach. The one below from Edinburgh.

Not quite as modern – but terms like “modern” are relative, aren’t they?

The women who work at the markets

This Schifferstädter Marktfrau wheels her beets to the market in front of the Rathaus in Schifferstadt, a town next to the river Rhein in the upper Rhine valley.
This cheerful Maatfrau sits in Koblenz, a couple of hundred kilometres down the river, with her lettuce and potatoes on offer.
And finally, in the heartland of the asparagus growing region, this Spargelfrau sells her wares in Schwetzingen in view of the palace – fitting for this noble vegetable.

Field trip
This year isn’t really the year for field trips but last year I had three weekends in the town of Böblingen, just south of Stuttgart, for a training program. I got up early (against my nature) and took photos around the hotel and the two town lakes.

The school and hotel was in the old part of town, amongst the pubs and restaurants and clubs.
Böblingen has an upper and lower lake which got a make-over for the national botanical show in 1996.
The walks around the lakes are dotted with sculpture pieces – which kind of spilled over in town.
It was early spring, so not too many flowers yet – but the people of the town were obviously expecting a rich harvest.

Play bridge
Bridges can offer wonderful perspectives.

This one crosses the river Neckar from Seckenheim to Ilvesheim.

And like this bridge for pedestrians and cyclists in Frankfurt over the river Main called Holbeinsteg.

And some look best with their surroundings like this one over the river Neckar in Heidelberg (which has a monkey the left bank – which coincidentally features in Geriatrix’ post today).

And some look beautiful close up, decrepit as they are, like this over the little stream in Schriesheim.

And some are mere boards crossing a stream for only a few hours. Check out Geriatrix’ Fotogallery for the story behind this little bridge.

Not quite a bushel of wheat

The farmer with the sickle and the sheaf of spikes of wheat is one of four figures at the bottom of the fountain on the market place in Bensheim. St George, the patron saint of the town, and his dragon form the centre piece on top of a column.

Turrets with bobbles

I just couldn’t bring myself to show a photo of somebody with a warm bobble cap while I am sitting in my room slowly melting at summer temperatures here.
This is a detail of the roof of Biebrich Palace in Wiesbaden on the banks of the river Main in Germany. A roof with two bobble caps, one for each ear.
