It might not be the largest baroque palace in Germany but it looks impressive even in winter with the capped tree skeletons in front. Particularly the palace gardens are wonderful. Apparently the buildings were originally painted in a yellow colour offset with white elements. I don’t know when the pinkish/salmon colour came in but I think it works very well – in fact, it looks splendiferous!
Many of the houses in the Martinsviertel in Darmstadt are more storey buildings from around the turn of the century (19th to 20th century, not the millenium).
