Whoop, Whoop! Opa!

When I was three years old I contracted whooping cough. At the time, the treatment consisted of symptomatic relief, and caregivers were advised to let patients into fresh air, preferably sea or mountain climate.
We neither had close to us but for six weeks my grandpa put me on his shoulders and walked up these hills until we reached the castle on the left, quite a lot of steep paths through the thick forest in wonderful, healthy air.
He was indefatigable.

If you follow this signpost you end up in the Kellerwald of Forchheim. It is where the for hundreds of years the beer brewers of Forchheim in Franken have stored their beer to keep it fresh (and cool): The forest is on a hill and there are 23 cellars dug into the hill, very similar to what I imagine hobbit holes to be like. Together they form what is probably the largest, certainly the most charming beer garden in the world.

I Think the Little Cloud Is Lost

Less sky, more green. But the sky itself would have been undefinably whitish grey. I took this photo on the banks of the river Neckar. A couple of kilometres up the river there would have been the Heidelberg castle on the slopes.
It looked quite atmospheric and not at all like spring. But that’s what you get in April. April is a mixed bag.
