African names
This is Blessing. We met him only briefly one afternoon at the Princess Alice Adoption Home in Johannesburg more than 30 years ago. But I immediately thought of him – and all of the other babies or adults with typical African names that sound not necessarily weird but unusual to European ears.
I met more than one Beauty and a couple of Precious’ (women) and one Passmore and one Wisdom. Currently I have a new student in my class from Nigeria, she’s called Favour.

The house of advocates
In Bad Tölz is a house, called “House of Advocates”. In German, an Advokat is a synonym for lawyer or barrister, one who pleads the cause of another. I couldn’t confirm where the name comes from and if it originally had anything to do with lawyers.
Today it is split into an event venue and living apartments. But the various landlords of the house have been advocating performance arts of various kinds since the 1930s.

Walking Leaves
These are leaf insects (aka grashoppers that engage in leaf mimikry) living in the Vivarium Darmstadt.
I’m not enough of a specialist to know if these particular insects are related to grasshoppers; they are if they are katydits but not if they are phylliidae.
