The translation of the short poem on this house reads:
This building is here To dignify the town, To adorn the place, And for my enjoyment.
Since I grew up next to this house, just on the other side of the lane, I thought the decoration was rather unique.
I found it three more times on houses in towns close by, albeit with small variations:

It doesn’t matter if the words aren’t unique. The house is.

It sure is. I was just surprised when I saw that verse pop up elsewhere. I don’t know the original source. I also don’t know when it was first painted on our neighbour’s house (memory suggests it was well over 60 years ago) an whether it was the first.
