
A teacher of religious education who was also a minister once said to our class: “A sermon can be about anything – but should not be over 15 minutes.” I think this holds true for most orations. If longer most wit (and enjoyment) is in jeopardy.

Indeed! And those olden days sermons where the minister had an hour-glass, which, a the end of the hour, he would simply turn over and keep on going. So they say.

To be fair, I don’t think hour long sermons are any longer a thing. Probably.

My first husband was a pastor. He adhered strictly to brevity. He was funny, too. 🥰
